King Ranch Saddle Shop
Kingsville, Texas

In the street lighting business, traveling often reveals unexpected surprises. This last spring break we were fortunate enough to pass through the mighty King Ranch of South Texas. 825,000 acres encompass this mighty spread with the City of Kingsville located on its outskirts. The History of the King Ranch goes as far back as the early 1800's when Richard King landed in Texas and began a river boat freighting company. King eventually started buying up large tracts of land and got heavily invested in the cattle business. The ranch continued to grow and was at one point over one million acres of sprawling grass lands perfect for the cultivation of cattle. Longhorn cattle were raised as the ultimate trail drive animal until the railroads came in and enabled the Kings to ship their beef to markets nationwide. The tough longhorn meat soon yielded to the King Ranch bred Santa Gertrudis stock, still coveted today for its taste and tenderness.
Our visit to the King Ranch and its Saddle Shop in Kingsville led us down historic Kleberg avenue, the towns main street. We were pleasantly surprised to find our own Niland Company Londonderry Series poles with a traditional 5 light Victorian head reminiscent of the early days of Kingsville. Our archived file of the job showed we produced this pole over 10 years ago from a customer designed sketch.
Today these standards proudly illuminate historic Kingsville. The King Ranch and its historic past are truly unique to Texas and lend to the grandeur Texas has become synonymous with.
The Niland Company is honored to shed light on the unique culture that is TEXAS.
